These profound descriptions from Ayurvedic texts written thousands of years ago summarize the secret to a healthy life : “One who turns to healthy foods and activities, discerns good from bad and acts with wisdom, maintains a regular lifestyle, does not become overly attached to sensory objects, cultivates the habit of treating everyone equally, practicing honesty and forgiveness, and befriending only good people, will be freed from all diseases.”
These words speak to much more than just physical health. Ayurveda emphasizes that our mental, emotional, and spiritual health are also intertwined with our bodies. So, how can we apply this ancient wisdom in today's fast-paced and stressful lives?
I remember when I first encountered Ayurveda, I felt quite tired and exhausted. Digestive problems, irregular eating habits, and a constant rush had worn me down. But Ayurveda taught me to listen to my body, calm my mind, and reconnect with nature. And the results were incredible! My energy increased, my digestion improved, and I began to feel more peaceful.
In this article, I've compiled Ayurveda's definition of health, a philosophy with an ancient history, into five fundamental principles. Let's begin to understand how we can integrate these principles into our modern lives and use them to lead a healthy life!

Sleep: The time when the body recharges!
The body needs rest and recharge to process and regenerate after a day's experiences, both physiologically and psychologically. People with irregular sleep patterns find it very difficult to improve both their mental well-being and their immune systems.

Waking up: The key to starting the day with energy!
Waking up with the sun has been a natural human instinct for tens of thousands of years, but the invention of electricity altered this natural flow and disrupted our biorhythms. Waking up with the first rays of the sun supports your body's natural rhythm and boosts your energy levels. When you find your circadian rhythm, you'll be more energetic and productive throughout the day.

Nutrition: Indulge yourself by eating natural foods!
Eating local, organic, and seasonal foods not only provides your body with the necessary nutrients but also strengthens your digestive system. Instead of harmful ingredients like artificial sweeteners, preservatives, and excessive salt found in processed foods, the fiber, vitamins, minerals, and antioxidants found in natural foods can boost your immunity and protect you against chronic diseases.

Elimination: Cleanse your body of toxins!
According to Ayurveda, which states "You are what you digest," good digestion is completed with bowel movements. No matter how well we eat, if we cannot eliminate waste without some stimulus, it is likely that toxins will accumulate in the body. Regular and healthy bowel movements strengthen your immune system and improve your overall health.
